KO IN 11TH STUNS CHAMP
Stevenson, 41, loses WBC belt
Oleksandr Gvozdyk delivers the knockout punch to Montreal’s Adonis Stevenson in Saturday night’s WBC light heavyweight bout in Quebec City. The unbeaten Ukrainian, now 16-0, handed Stevenson just his second defeat in 32 bouts. Trailing on points in the bout, Gvozdyk seemed to be fresher than Stevenson as the match went longer. Stevenson was ahead on two of the judges’ card and tied on the third one. It was Stevenson’s 10th title defence since winning the belt against Chad Dawson in 2013. It marked the 41-year-old Canadian’s first loss since 2010 and first ever in Canada. Gvozdyk was fighting in Canada for the first time.
