Infected ankle sidelines Kovalchuk

-

LOS ANGELES— Kings winger Ilya Kovalchuk will miss up to a month after a procedure to remove fluid from an infected ankle. Kovalchuk is scoreless in his last 11 games and has been benched for stretches in the first season of a three-year, $18.75-million U.S. contract after five years in Russia’s KHL. The Kings also claimed winger Nikita Scherbak, a first-round pick in 2014, off waivers from the Canadiens.
