Cap crunch costs Esks as­sis­tant a job

Mike Bene­v­ides is the lat­est ca­su­alty of the CFL’s new non-player op­er­a­tions cap, set at just un­der $2.59 mil­lion. Bene­v­ides won’t re­turn as as­sis­tant coach of the Ed­mon­ton Eski­mos af­ter con­tract ne­go­ti­a­tions failed to reach a deal that would fit un­der the cap. This week, the Saskatchewan Roughrid­ers parted with player per­son­nel boss John Mur­phy, while the Alou­ettes parted with four coaches and two scouts.
