Celebrate Bach in your own backyard
Re Montreal’s Bach fest full of fresh discoveries, Littler, Dec. 8
Bravo to William Littler for doing his part to close the gap in cultural understanding between Toronto and Montreal by calling attention to Montreal’s successful Bach Festival.
In fact, Toronto also has an annual celebration of Bach’s music; newer and less established, to be sure, than Montreal’s, but no less a champion of this magnificent body of music.
We have an exciting program for the fourth annual Toronto Bach Festival this coming May, including a recital by Montreal harpsichordist Luc Beauséjour.
We very much hope our fellow Bach-lovers in Montreal will join us this year in supporting our festival and celebrating Canada’s rich con- tribution to performing Bach’s works. Jennifer Mary Bell, chair of the Toronto Bach Festival I was delighted to learn from William Littler’s piece the details of the Montreal Bach Festival. It sounds like a wonderful event, and perhaps I shall attend in the future.
I am, however, perplexed by his lament that Toronto lacks such an institution.
While busy trying to decipher what this deficiency says about our culture, he seems not to have noticed that there is a Bach festival in Toronto: the very unambiguously titled Toronto Bach Festival.
This coming year, it will run from May 24 to 26. I encourage Mr. Littler to attend. Christopher Petruccelli, Woodbridge
