Missed opportunity for real change
Too bad Jody Wilson-Raybould was too proud to accept the Indigenous services portfolio when offered it by our prime minister, after losing the prestigious job of attorney general in a cabinet shuffle.
She said she had spent her life opposing the Indian Act and couldn’t be in charge of the programs administered under its authority.
By refusing the offer, WilsonRaybould missed an opportunity to try to bring change to the Indian Act.
As a minister in the federal government, she had the best chance to work for a change to the Indian Act. With Trudeau’s preposition to reconciliation, change could have happened.
