Ford’s gas station stickers are ridiculous

-

Re Gas stations that refuse decals face fine, April 13

Why can Doug Ford spend millions of our tax payers’ dollars to “fight” the federal government on its carbon pricing legislation to fight climate change and global warming? Who of us can afford to fight against his fiat of putting stickers on gas pumps to “inform” those same tax paying drivers only of what he wants?

Can the gas station retailers get millions of dollars together for lawyers to beat the government? The federal Conservatives certainly won’t do anything to help. Will the NDP? Can private individuals or groups afford to take on the government in this way? All we can seem to do is wait for the next election, but by then it is too late.

I hope people will just ignore and laugh at Ford’s simplistic idea of stickers and tell him where to stick it. John Purvis, Colborne, Ont.

This is incredible. Ford’s PCs are actually proposing fines of up to $10,000 per day for not displaying on all gas pumps a sticker that protests the Canadian federal government’s carbon tax policies (“Federal Carbon Tax Transparency Act”)?

What will be next — homeowners facing daily fines for not displaying a Conservative sign on their lawn during the next election? Bruce Singleton, Pickering The Ontario government’s so-called Federal Carbon Tax Transparency Act buried in the recent budget is apparently going to result in gas station operators having to apply a sticker to pumps stating the cost to consumers of the Federal Carbon Tax.

However, it is reported that the sticker will not mention the carbon tax rebate. This omission, apart from negating any semblance of transparency, also smacks of a deliberate effort at obfuscation. Bill Wensley, Cobourg, Ont.

Re On big issues, Ford’s budget is doomed to disappoint, Walkom, April 12

I feel that Doug Ford’s government is totally missing the boat on climate change. The plans to resist the federal carbon tax with stickers at all Ontario Gas pumps are simply bully tactics because they don’t have the brains to address this topic intelligently.

Ford got elected on an anti-Kathleen Wynne groundswell that has totally back fired with a government that is even worse.

Our provincial Liberals must come up with a new leader who has a common sense of economics and a recognition of the science of global warming. Mike Smith, Oakville
