Canadians drop exhibition opener

BRUSSELS— The Canadian women’s basketball team, led by Kayla Alexander’s game-high 17 points, lost 69-60 to China in the opener of a five-game exhibition series. Miranda Ayim scored 13 points, while Jamie Scott added 12 for Canada. China outscored Canada 23-10 in the second quarter. The Canadians, who face host Belgium on Saturday, carved the deficit to six in the third quarter, but couldn’t get closer.
