Spider-Man is still a mystery to Paltrow
Tom Holland amused that co-star struggles to remember his name
Spider-Man must be hiding his identity really well under his suit if not even Gwyneth Paltrow, who was in the film, knows the actor’s real name.
Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Far From Home, recently revealed that Gwyneth Paltrow forgot about working with him in more than one movie.
While playing a trivia game for USA Today’s Popsugar feature with co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, Holland admitted he was heartbroken that Paltrow never knew his name.
“I mean I’ve only worked with Gwyneth one time — on SpiderMan: Homecoming— which she doesn’t remember,” he said, laughing. “Still, to this day, breaks my heart.”
Shortly after he shared his disappointment, he remembered that this wasn’t the first time Paltrow didn’t know his name.
The two briefly worked together on Avengers: Endgame, and the Goop founder made it pretty public then she had no clue who Holland was. “One time when we were shooting … Avengers: Endgame, she was in her blue suit and I was in my Spider-Man suit, and she came up and she asked me for a photo with me and Robert (Downey Jr.),” he said.
“And then I think she posted it and she said, ‘Robert Downey Jr., myself and this guy.’ I was just ‘the guy.’ It was cute. It was cute.”
“That’s nice,” Zendaya chuckled before adding
“‘This guy.’ Meaning, ‘I forgot his name!’”
But can we really blame Paltrow? The actress recently forgot she was in the movie herself.
While chatting with actor Jon Favreau in an episode of Netflix’s The Chef Show earlier this month, she was shocked to find out she, in fact, was in the Spider-Man movie.
“We weren’t in Spider-Man,” Paltrow insisted.
“Yes, we were. Homecoming. You were in Spider-Man,” Favreau reminded the actress. “No. I was in Avengers,” she responded with confidence. “Remember Spider-Man at the end? And Tom Holland’s there and you’re gonna walk out and do a press conference,” he said, trying to jog her memory.
“Oh yes! That was SpiderMan? Oh my God!”
Better luck next time Tom — maybe when Gwyneth knows what movie she’s in.
