Sidewalk Labs isn’t only choice for waterfront
Re The stakes on the waterfront, Editorial, Aug. 19
It is sad that the Star’s editorial vision for Toronto’s eastern waterfront comes down to a severely limited and unacceptable choice.
On the one hand we are told, we can have the urban blight of development as usual or we can, instead, embrace Sidewalk Lab’s proposal, in which a foreign-owned, big data company orchestrates a land grab and a power grab to build a city within our city.
There could be different choices. The citizens of Toronto could be asked what we want and perhaps we could develop our vision of a democratic, affordable, inclusive, environmentally sustainable, resilient and livable city.
