Green energy cancellations are foolish government idea

-

Re Green energy cancellations cost province $231M, Nov. 20

I sometimes feel a bit guilty when I don’t support demonstrators against the pipeline.

I am a true supporter of green energy and appreciate the dire consequences of doing nothing about climate change. My guilt quickly disappeared when I read about green energy cancellations in Ontario.

It is appalling that 800 renewable energy projects were cancelled and that we, the people of Ontario, wasted $231 million of our hard-earned money through taxes to this government.

Until we get premiers in this country who appreciate the devastation of doing nothing about climate change, I will continue to support pipelines in Canada. I much prefer to see oil and gas produced in Canada rather than importing gas at outrageous prices.

I also think that gas delivered via pipelines is much safer than hundreds of trains and tanker trucks on our roads.

We must impress on our provincial premiers, maybe even through demonstrations, the need to develop alternative sources of energy. We will continue to be dependent on gas and oil until alternatives are in place.

How regressive and typical of Conservatives: Cost taxpayers money at the same time as stifle positive new renewable energy initiatives — wrong in multiple ways.

But for the the NDP to compare this to Liberals closing coal-fired plants is doubly wrong. Sure, they both cost money. But Ford’s cuts hurt the planet and all our survival on it, and the Liberals was to save the planet and let us breathe awhile longer (no smog days since). So, not comparable. And that the NDP used this opportunity to play politics and score points against the Liberals is almost as bad as Ford cutting these renewable energy projects in the first place.

The election’s over folks — let’s work together to solve the huge problems facing us.
