Two men killed in an early morning stabbing in Mississauga on Saturday were both fathers of three, according to neighbours.

Lesley Flores, a resident of the quiet cul-de-sac near Glen Erin Drive and The Collegeway where the men were found, identified one of them as a man in his 40s named Max, who worked as a chef. The other victim was a 28-year-old man.

Max, a longtime friend who sometimes called himself Kevin, brought Flores and her family food every so often, she said. Earlier on Saturday, Flores saw Max’s teenage daughter sitting in a “comatose state” in a police cruiser. “I feel really bad for that family,” she said.

Police were called to the area at about 1 a.m. and found the men outside an apartment building suffering from stab wounds. One of the men died at the scene and the other was pronounced dead in hospital.

On Saturday afternoon, at least 12 police vehicles, including a mobile command centre and a forensics truck, were parked in the neighbourhood.

Yellow police tape cordoned off most of the cul-de-sac. Neighbours pressed their faces to their front windows to watch the goings-on.

Flores said she heard no commotion of any sort overnight on Saturday. She watched from her front porch as police removed the body of a dog that was also an apparent victim of the stabbings. She said she saw officers wiping down its paws to “lift something off him. They had evidence bags nearby.”

Terry and Brittany, a mother and daughter who live on the outer edge of the cul-de-sac and did not want to give their last names, said they knew the other victim, a 28-year-old man, and his family for many years.

During a news conference, Peel Regional Police Const. Sarah Patten said police believe “an altercation took place between both males and (it) was not necessarily an attack on one male.” Police say the men knew each other but were not related.

No suspects are believed to be outstanding, Patten added.
