Which outfielder would we be able to get via trade or free agency? Also, Brandon Drury, Billy McKinney, Anthony Alford, Jonathan Davis or Derek Fisher: who makes it on the 26-man roster? — Girish The biggest names still available in free agency include Marcell Ozuna, Nick Castellanos and Yasiel Puig, but I would be surprised if any of them end up in Toronto. The Blue Jays remain open to adding a centre-fielder, but there appears to be far less interest in adding another corner outfielder. A more likely scenario would see the club maintain the status quo and give Teoscar Hernandez another shot in centre. Drury currently projects as the backup infielder, while there’s a scenario where both the out-ofoptions Fisher and Alford make the team out of camp. McKinney and Davis figure to open the year in Buffalo. Do you see any Daniel Hudson veteran types out there for the back end of the ’pen? — Raymond The secondary market for relievers has really started to move this week. Washington signed Hudson and Will Harris, Craig Stammen re-upped with the Padres and the White Sox added Steve Cishek. Of the candidates still available, three names stick out: Arodys Vizcaino, Nate Jones and Hector Rendon. I have no idea what the thinking is with Ken Giles. Do you trade him and cash in on an asset? Do you leave this question for July? Sign him long term? — Marc My guess at this point is that the Jays hang onto him. If a legitimate top prospect is being offered, one Toronto feels can make a long-term impact, then a deal almost has to be made, but at this point it seems unlikely. What are your thoughts on the Blue Jays employing a six-man rotation? They have more quality starting depth right now compared to last season, but also have starters with either a lot of miles (Hyun-Jin Ryu) or injury history (Matt Shoemaker, Ryan Borucki). The extra rest would do them some good and allow another young starter a chance for some innings. — James I’m not a fan of making a permanent move to a six-man rotation, but I think there are a lot of benefits to mixing in an extra guy from time to time. Whether it’s after a starter has a particularly long outing, or during a lengthy stretch without an off-day, there will be days when this makes sense. Is this the year we start to see the likes of T.J. Zeuch and Sean Reid-Foley move to the ’pen, or will they continue to be triple-A starters — with Anthony Kay, Trent Thornton, Ryan Borucki, Nate Pearson, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Chase Anderson, Tanner Roark, Matt Shoemaker, Jacob Waguespack all ahead of them at this point and the next wave on its way? — Chris Reid-Foley moving to the bullpen seems inevitable, with one of Borucki and Thornton slotted for the big league rotation and the other joined by Kay, Zeuch, Pearson, possibly Yennsy Diaz and others in Buffalo. Zeuch might find himself in a similar situation next year, but his role should be safe for now.
