KICKIN’ IT INTO HIGH GEAR
Canadian auto show boasts high-class — and high price.
Bugatti’s La Voiture Noire, touted as the most expensive car in the world at $16.1million, is just one piece of automotive eye candy on display at the 47th Canadian International AutoShow.
The show, which opens at noon Friday at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, will not only give car aficionados their first glimpse of the Bugatti, the automotive playground will also feature new products from 38 exhibiting manufacturers including the Aston Martin DBX, its first luxury SUV, and the 2021 Corvette convertible. The event showcases the epitome of automotive engineering and innovation, with futuristic models in the mix vying for attention.
“There is a lot of attention around electric vehicles and electrified concepts,” said general manager Jason Campbell, about models including the Lexus LF-30 electrified concept and Toyota’s hybrid-electric model. “We have more announcements about new product and future products in the electric space,” he added. Also, Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, is expected on Friday to announce the federal government’s planned investment into level-3 electric vehicle charging stations to be installed across the country. These will offer the fastest charge available, Campbell said.
“All of those things are driving consumer interest,” Campbell said.
The show runs until Feb. 23. Tickets are available at the door.
A positive sign for Campbell is the two per cent bump in advanced ticket sales to date. With some help from the weather, Campbell expects about 350,000 people to attend the show.
On Thursday, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada named the Mazda3 and the Jaguar I-Pace Canadian car and utility vehicles of the year.
