Toronto man sought for triple kidnapping
Three victims tied up and forced to withdraw cash at a Pickering bank
Durham and Niagara police are looking for a 25-year-old man after three people were kidnapped, tied up and forced to take money out of their bank accounts in Pickering on Thursday.
Police say Michael NantonMadden of Toronto is considered “armed and dangerous.”
He is wanted for kidnapping, robbery, break and enter, pointing a firearm, forcible confinement, possession of a weapon for committing an offence, uttering death threats, theft of a motor vehicle and failing to stop for police.
Police say a man from St. Catharines entered a bank on Kingston Road in Pickering at 10 a.m. on Thursday and reported that he had been kidnapped, forcibly confined and made to take money out of his account.
When police arrived, they found a vehicle nearby with one suspect and two other victims — a man and a woman, also from St. Catharines.
Police say the three victims, all in their 20s, were kidnapped by three men who tied them up and forced them to withdraw money from their bank accounts. They were not physically injured.
A 19-year-old man from Toronto was arrested on the scene. A second man was arrested on Friday in Niagara
Falls, but was later released unconditionally.
Police said a second vehicle involved in the incident was followed west into Toronto before officers lost sight of it.
Nanton-Madden then eluded police at a residence in Welland. On Friday, Niagara police closed off a large area of Welland as they searched for him. Emergency task force members and a canine unit searched yards.
Police say Nanton-Madden is believed to be driving a black, 2009, two-door BMW with Ontario plate #CLJA-289.
“This was an isolated incident and at this time there is no immediate concerns for public safety,” Durham police said. Anyone who sees NantonMadden is being instructed to call 911and not to approach him. Investigators are also urging him to contact a lawyer and turn himself in.
Jonathan St. Louis, 19, of Toronto, has been charged with break and enter; pointing a firearm; forcible confinement; possess weapon for committing an offence; utter death threats; kidnapping; theft of motor vehicle; robbery and possess proceeds of crime under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing.
