This summer, Colin Fisher was planning on making a skateboard video and was picking out some songs to go with it, said his girlfriend, Shannon Grant.

Instead, she said, those songs were used for his funeral, after Fisher, a 32-year-old from Brampton, was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run collision while he was cycling on the evening of May 1.

“I never expected that’s what the songs would be used for,” Grant said during a news conference Tuesday, at the Apple Factory, close to where Fisher was killed. “We all miss him a lot and are pretty upset and sad over this whole situation.”

At the time of the collision, approaching midnight, Grant said Fisher was cycling from her house to his home so he could feed his cats. The following day, Grant received a phone call from Fisher’s father, informing her about what had happened.

“I thought it was Colin, but it was his dad’s voice,” she recalled. “I knew something was wrong. I thought he was going to tell me he’s hurt, but he didn’t. He said (Colin is) dead and (I knew) that’s final. I’d never get to see him again.”

Peel’s major collision bureau is investigating the incident and searching for the driver of the suspect vehicle, a 2004 or 2005 black, two-tone Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Const. Akhil Mooken said investigators believe the vehicle travelled south through Caledo n and Georgetown into Brampton. It was last spotted travelling east along Bovaird. Mooken said the vehicle may have damage to the front end.

As for the suspect, Grant made an emotional plea for them to contact a lawyer and turn themself in. “I know you’re probably scared, but you need to do the right thing for Colin, his parents, his friends, everyone who cared about him,” said Grant, who also read a similar plea from his parents, who she said were too distraught to speak Tuesday. “Please, you need to contact a lawyer. You need to come forward, because you need to be held responsible for what you’ve done and what you’ve taken away.”
