I have faith Waterfront Toronto will see us right
Re Sidewalk Labs leaves as peak Google comes into view, May 10
While there is plenty to criticize about Toronto’s dreadful approach to urban development — case in point, we’re the last major city without a meaningful network of safe pedestrian and cycling spaces — Waterfront Toronto is the wrong target.
Sidewalk Labs, a Google affiliate, wanted to build a “smart city” that would track every person’s movement and harvest their data for profit. Waterfront (Toronto)’s progressively minded board objected.
I have full faith that that same board, led by forward-thinking councillors like Joe Cressy, is not going to roll over for the “banal highrise developments” warned of in your editorial.
