Minor youth a suspect in brazen triple shooting

- TOM YUN STAFF REPORTER

Toronto police say they have identified one of the suspects wanted in Tuesday’s brazen daylight shooting as a minor.

On Thursday, police released shocking surveillance footage of the shooting in the Entertainment District, and a photograph of one of the suspects involved.

Early Friday, police asked the media to remove his photo from their websites after learning that the suspect is a youth.

Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the teen cannot be identified.

The shooting happened after 4 p.m. on Blue Jays Way, near King Street West and Spadina Avenue.

Dimarjio Jenkins, a 21-year-old, upand-coming rapper who performed under the name Houdini, was killed.

A 15-year-old boy and a 27-year-old woman were taken to hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. The drama unfolded when a man with a handgun attached to a high-capacity magazine emerged from a blue Volkswagen Tiguan SUV and opened fire as Jenkins and two armed associates walked down the street.

The two associates, dressed in black, returned shots, as the lone gunman ran away before fleeing in the SUV.

The bullets landed inches from the feet of a six-year-old boy, and just missed his mother, who was standing by the door of the family vehicle.
