Resuming sports in Toronto a very bad and unfair idea

-

Re First, the NHL. Now, the Blue Jays. Toronto is about to become a coronavirus petri dish for pro sports, July 2

Thank you so much, Damien Cox, for your column.

How dare our federal, provincial and local governments think it is OK to bring these sports teams into Toronto and not be quarantined. How dare they think sports is above our health. I am 84 years old and was born and raised in Toronto. I love sports but this is unbelievable.

After months of being confined to my home and only just now tentatively venturing out a little, our governments want to let these athletes cross our borders and bring the virus with them. How naive to think the virus will be controlled, all for the sake of the almighty dollar. They haven’t been able to control it in the U.S., so what makes them think it can be controlled here?

Mayor John Tory, a man I have respected until now, flippantly said, “If we are criticized, so be it.”

Where are our health experts in all this? They had no trouble shutting us down and most of us tried to obey, but now they are silent. Vancouver at least has the concern of its citizens and put health first.

I’m beyond furious.
