“We were completely taken by the location and the home’s unusual style: the cobblestone driveway, the rooflines and structure,” homeowner Jennifer Wardrop said.
“Once we had a tour, we understood the home — known as the Ashley & Crippen House — was equally special on the inside. Built in 1922, it is considered one of the first examples of residential modernism in Toronto, and was featured as such in the book, ‘Making Toronto Modern,’ by Christopher Armstrong, 2014.
“Because the house is set back on the ravine, it feels like living in a treehouse,” Wardrop said. She added that renovations over the past decade have also included maintaining original features (some 100 years old) such as the home’s unique doors, trim, hardware and some lighting.
