Some key facts about the Toronto Star’s new leadership

Jordan Bitove

His first job was delivering the Star. His father, John Bitove Sr., was a wellknown Toronto businessma­n.

Jordan Bitove graduated from Western University in 1983, and later served on its board of governors.

He helped launch the Toronto Raptors, was part of the ownership consortium that built the SkyDome (now known as the Rogers Centre) and helped make Toronto’s 2008 Olympics bid.

He currently runs a private equity and real estate group in Toronto.

He has been on the board of directors of the SickKids Foundation since 2012, and launched a signature event that has raised millions for SickKids.

Paul Rivett

Rivett’s parents both immigrated to Canada; his father came from the United Kingdom in 1944, and his mother is Polish American. He grew up in Pickering. He studied at the University of Toronto and Queen’s University, obtaining a law degree from Queen’s in 1996.

He worked at law firms Blake, Cassels & Graydon, and Shearman & Sterling.

He left law behind to work for financial holdings company Fairfax Financial.

At Fairfax, he worked with founder Prem Watsa, who became his mentor. He became president of Fairfax in 2013.

He is the chairman of the board of directors for Recipe Unlimited Corp.

David Peterson

Peterson was born in Toronto and grew up in London, Ont.

He studied political science and philosophy at the University of Western Ontario, then obtained a law degree at the University of Toronto.

He became a Queen’s Counsel in 1980 and was appointed to the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada in 1992.

He became the leader of the Ontario Liberal Party in 1982 and was Premier of Ontario from 1985 to 1990. He received the Order of Ontario. He was the founding chairman of the Toronto Raptors and was part of the committee responsibl­e for Toronto’s 2008 Olympic bid.
