Renaming Toronto streets a waste of time and resources

-

Re Council amenable to renaming Dundas Street, Oct. 2 Please do not spend my tax dollars on renaming Dundas Street, or any other street, particularly at this time. The health-care system is in crisis, people are in need, food banks are overworked and people cannot pay their rent.

The biggest problem, other than the waste of time and money, is that most people have no idea what our history is. It is ridiculous to rename streets and take down statues when all the average person knows is that this person was probably a racist. Most people in the past were racists, just as they were classist, sexist and narrow-minded.

If you want to spend money, provide funds for an excellent, entertaining, knowledgeable writer, or many writers, to start publishing interesting essays and set up really good websites on these historical figures.

Educate the public about our history, good and bad, and spend tax dollars helping the many people who are suffering in Toronto right now. Cate White, Toronto
