Discover the Remai Modern, Saskatoon

One of Canada’s most fascinating new museums, Remai Modern is a striking sight by the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon—a Prairie Modern–style architectural attraction as soon as it opened in 2017. Inside the 130,000-square-foot space, you’ll find three floors devoted to contemporary and modern art, kid-friendly learning studios, a theatre for film screenings and live programming.

Meet the curator: Tarah Hogue, Curator of Indigenous Art (the first such curator at the Remai Modern). The recipient of the 2019 Award for Emerging Curator of Contemporary Canadian Art from The Hnatyshyn Foundation, Hogue joined the Remai in October.

She recommends that prospective visitors watch Bridget Moser’s “My Crops Are Dying But My Body Persists,” a performance art video on the Remai Modern site. “Bridget is a Toronto-based artist whose performance and video practice speaks to the kinds of underlying anxieties produced by consumer culture, and the desire to make ourselves better,” explains Hogue. “And she does this with a lot of humour. You might even describe some of her work as prop comedy.”

Shop and support the Remai Modern: Gift an individual membership, from $55 ( experienceremaimodern.ca/membership), or a gift card (redeem for admission, membership or gift store), from $10 ( remaimoderart-design-store-info/gift-cards).
