Canada’s Wonderland eyed for drive-thru site,
Canada’s Wonderland could soon be the site of a COVID-19 vaccine drive-thru, according to York Region medical officer of health Dr. Karim Kurji.
“York Region is planning for multiple fixed COVID-19 vaccination clinic sites, drive-thru sites, mobile clinics in combination with an outreach program for areas disproportionally impacted by COVID-19,” Dr. Kurji said in a statement.
Details are being finalized, with plans to set up one such clinic at Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan and another at the Markham Fairgrounds.
York Region is planning for another five vaccine sites in Newmarket, Georgina, Richmond Hill, Markham and Vaughan, said Kurji, with locations “being chosen based on accessibility criteria, population distribution and vulnerability.”
There may be additional sites added and the locations are subject to change based on operational needs and capacity.
“The supply of COVID-19 vaccines is not arriving all at once, so distribution is happening in stages,” Kurji said. “When more supplies become available, vaccines will be offered to everyone who wants one in the priority order.”
Canada’s Wonderland recently announced plans to reopen May 14 with appropriate COVID-19 health and safety measures in place.
Last week, Toronto announced nine locations for vaccination clinics in a bid to inoculate 120,000 people per week across the city once the supply of COVID-19 vaccines is in full swing.
“We expect our large vaccination clinics will be just one part of the overall effort,” Mayor John Tory said on Wednesday. “Depending on the type of vaccine available, we anticipate the majority of people will ultimately get their shot at a pharmacy or from their doctor.”
