The new Leafs: Extra depth at all positions

❭ Nick Foligno: The 33-year-old forward was captain of the Blue Jackets before Sunday night’s swap for firstand fourth-round draft picks. He has 23 points in 42 games this season, and the playoff experience the Leafs were looking for. He’ll have to quarantine after crossing the border from Columbus. His first game as a Leaf projects to April 21 vs. the Jets. Says Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe: “He’s just one of those guys that does whatever it takes to win.” round pick.

❭ David Rittich: The 28-yearold netminder flies in from Calgary in exchange for a third-Nicknamed Big Save Dave, he’s 4-7-1 with a .904 save percentage this season and has no playoff experience. He’s also finishing a two-year contract and can become an unrestrict­ed free agent after the season.

❭ Ben Hutton: The 27-year-old Brockville-born defenceman was acquired from Anaheim for a fifth-round pick in next year’s draft. He’s considered an above-average skater and passer, and has played in 375 NHL games with 16 goals and 91 points. He’s on a one-year deal worth $950,000 (U.S.) and has five points in 34 games this season.

❭ Antti Suomela: The 27-yearold Finnish forward arrives from the San Jose Sharks in a swap for taxi-squad forward Alex Barabanov. Suomela has split the last three seasons between the Sharks and their AHL affiliate. He has 15 points in 51 NHL games. In the AHL, he’s had 35 points in 71 games, plus an assist in two Calder Cup playoff contests.

❭ Stefan Noesen: The 28-yearold forward was part of the three-way Foligno trade, with San Jose receiving a fourthroun­d pick and picking up part of Foligno’s salary. Noesen has 54 points in 204 NHL games and one playoff goal in four post-season contests. He was drafted 21st overall by the Ottawa Senators in 2011.
