Draft a law that protects us all

-

Re Vaccine resisters are lazy and irresponsible — we need vaccine passports now to protect the rest of us, July 30

As I listened to the news today covering the various shades of support for a vaccine passport being offered by four federal party leaders and thinking about our province’s stance so far, all I could think was, “What is wrong with these people?”

The only real problem is whether it renders those who cannot receive it as some type of second-class member of society. I think, however, most of us are fine with treating vaccine deniers in that manner.

The solution offered by Ford, Trudeau, O’Toole, et al is to simply draft a law covering this. Let’s say the law is titled the Protecting Everyone Act for COVID’s End. (PEACE for short). Such a law would state everyone is to be issued a document stating that the holder is in full compliance with the provisions of PEACE.

The Act or its regulations state that a person is deemed in compliance when they have either A) received a full vaccination as described in the vaccine manufacturer’s documentation, or B) has provided acceptable medical certification that the holder cannot be vaccinated for valid medical reasons.

There would be no indication on the passport as to whether “A” or “B” applied and, given the small number who would qualify under “B,” the risk to the general population would be insignificant.
