BUYING MEAT ONLINE NOT ONLY SAVES TIME AND MONEY—IT’S FUN, TOO

Meet June Nyholt, who tried truLOCAL on a tip and has since become one of the meat subscription company’s biggest fans

When you’re 75, you have the confidence to trust your gut. When June Nyholt’s trainer Gary Ferrier suggested she try truLOCAL’s meat subscription box, she was keen to give it a go right away. “My trainer had the highest of praise for their products and customer service,” says Nyholt. “Plus, at grocery stores and meat specialty stores, prices were crazy, and good-quality products were hard to find.” Nyholt says the sign-up process was easy, too — even for someone who wasn’t a big online shopper. “I’m computer-illiterate, so I had lots of questions, but the ladies in customer service were awesome,” says Nyholt with a laugh. The flexibility of truLOCAL’s services is also a dream come true for the busy Nyholt: “I love that I can choose what I want, how often I want it and change my delivery date, skip a delivery, or even change my products before my shipping date.”

Nyholt still fondly remembers the first time she received her truLOCAL box: “I could hardly wait to receive it and try the meat, poultry, and fish. It was fun and I was so impressed with the packing and the recipe card. Plus, every box has a little note from the packer. I love it!” Her first favourite product? truLOCAL’s legendary chicken breasts, which were, she says, the biggest, juiciest, and tastiest she had ever enjoyed. “We actually stopped buying chicken breasts at the grocery stores as they were dry, odd sizes and definitely not enjoyable,” says Nyholt.

Today, her current favourite is the wild-caught sockeye salmon. What makes it so memorable? “It’s perfectly portioned, tender, flavourful and cooks up beautifully,” says Nyholt. Each box yields a bounty of mouth-watering treats, thanks to truLOCAL’s commitment to partnering with local suppliers who catch the finest seafood and raise the most succulent meat in the land. “Their meats are healthier, with organic options and very little fat,” says Nyholt. “I also try to support local in everything I buy — I love helping local businesses.”

truLOCAL has also made Nyholt’s life easier, whether it’s being spared the anxiety-inducing pandemic-era trips to the grocery store or skipping the annoyance of having to pick through pounds and pounds of product trying to find the size you want. Now, she says, “I will never go back to grocery store meat.” And, just like her trainer before her, Nyholt has now become an advocate for eating local and eating delicious. “I encourage everyone to try truLOCAL,” she says. “And they’re never disappointed.”
