Enough is enough with these anti-vaxxers’ nonsense

-

Re I’m fed up with anti-vaxxers and politicians too afraid to get tough with them, Sept. 8

Bravo to the Star’s Bob Hepburn. I completely agree with what you wrote about anti-vaxxers.

Where are the politicians who will speak up about these individuals who are putting the health of others at risk? I remember as a child having been given diphtheria, measles and chickenpox vaccinations. Nobody asked if it was the right thing to do; it was assumed these vaccines were a protection for all society.

Now we are seeing the hospitals filled with COVID-19 patients who have not been vaccinated and we who are vaccinated end up paying for their health care. Those demonstrating in front of hospitals declaring their freedom to say no? Perhaps give them that right — along with the bill should they have to be cared for in the very institutions they are picketing.

Re The media cannot allow a few hundred anti-vaxxers to

drown out millions of climate voters, Sept. 7

I agree with Star contributor Meshall Awan: The media cannot allow a few hundred antivaxxers to drown out millions of climate voters. The media must stop giving these people a platform and the spotlight they crave.

Yes, anti-vaxxers have the right to protest and voice their displeasure with a policy or person, but they do not have the right to bully, harass, physically attack or slander anyone, including the prime minister of Canada.

Civility, common courtesy and peaceful protest do not seem to be within these people’s vocabulary or capability. The very least the Star and other media can do is to stop giving them free publicity.
