Scherzer hits 3,000 Ks in near-perfect win
LOS ANGELES—After notching career strikeout No. 3,000 against San Diego, Dodgers right-hander Max Scherzer took a perfect game into the eighth inning of Sunday’s 8-0 victory over the Padres. Scherzer retired his first 22 batters before Eric Hosmer doubled to deep right with one out in the eighth. A crowd of 42,637 saluted the 37-year-old righty, who fanned nine batters in all on 92 pitches — including an immaculate inning in the second, three strikeouts on nine pitches.
