- Debra Yeo

Chess miniseries “The Queen’s Gambit” was several moves ahead of its rivals after the first night of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Saturday.

The Netflix series, an early pandemic hit, won seven prizes, including awards for sound editing and sound mixing, picture editing, cinematography, production design, period costumes and period makeup.

The Disney-plus “Star Wars” spinoff “The Mandalorian,” FX LGBTQ drama “Pose” and long-standing sketch comedy “Saturday Night Live” all won three awards each.

Double winners included Disney Plus-Marvel series “WandaVision” and royal Netflix drama “The Crown” — each of which topped this year’s Emmy nomination list with 24 apiece — and Apple TV-plus comedy “Ted Lasso,” which set a record for a freshman comedy with 20 nominations. The Primetime Emmy Awards air this Sunday at 8 p.m. on CTV and CBS.
