Hospital care should be based on the choices people make

Re Dozens of protesters target Toronto hospital to protest vaccine mandates after ‘silent vigil’ in Queen’s Park, Sept. 13

I’m really struggling to understand the protests at hospitals, of all places.

Who actually thinks the hospital staff, sick and injured people entering the hospital have any control whatsoever over vaccine mandates?

But here is a compromise. Let’s forget about the mandates — it’s all about choice, I get it. But let’s also forget about postponing all those surgeries and procedures to make room in our hospitals for surgeries in COVID-19 cases. (You know, the reason for all the mandates.)

If you go to the hospital due to COVID and are unvaccinated, you go to the back of the line behind all the vaccinated people who also made a choice.

If we get to a point where hard choices must be made regarding who gets equipment, bed and staffing care, let’s not triage it — let’s base it on the ‘choices’ people have made.
