‘Ted Lasso’ wins big with TV critics

The TV series that’s favoured to win Best Comedy at the Emmy Awards on Sunday scored big with the Television Critics Associatio­n.

Apple TV Plus’s “Ted Lasso” won Outstandin­g Achievemen­t in Comedy, Outstandin­g New

Program and Program of the Year at the 37th annual TCA Awards.

The Individual Achievemen­t in Comedy prize went to Jean Smart for HBO Max’s “Hacks.” Smart also won the Career Achievemen­t Award, while another show she’s been acclaimed for, HBO’s “Mayor of Easttown,” won Outstandin­g Movie, Miniseries or Special.

The Individual Achievemen­t in Drama award went to Michaela Coel for HBO’s “I May Destroy You.”

Netflix’s “The Crown,” also an Emmys favourite, took Outstandin­g Drama.

The associatio­n, which is made up of more than 200 North American TV journalist­s (including this writer), gave its Heritage Award to NBC’s multiple Emmy-winning “The Golden Girls.”
