TORONTODANFORTH

- Victoria Gibson

Julie Dabrusin has won the riding of Toronto-Danforth for the Liberals.

Dabrusin has represented the riding federally since 2015.

The area has bounced between the Liberals and NDP since its creation in the late 1970s, with the late NDP leader Jack Layton holding the seat from 2003 to 2011.

Dabrusin’s campaign came out ahead of NDP challenger Clare Hacksel, a health care and harm reduction worker, as well as corporate and commercial lawyer Michael Carey for the Conservatives, the Green party’s Maryem Hassan Tollar, a teacher and vocalist, and the People’s Party’s Wayne Simmons, a sales representative.

In the most recent Parliament, Dabrusin served as parliamentary secretary to the minister of Canadian heritage, and sat on a committee examining legislation around big tech companies including Facebook.
