ETOBICOKE CENTRE

- Ben Cohen

Yvan Baker has won the riding of Etobicoke Centre for the Liberals.

He has represented the riding in the House of Commons since 2019. He was elected MPP of the riding in 2014 but was unseated in the next provincial election by Conservative Kinga Surma.

Baker grew up in Etobicoke and has a master’s of business administration from Dartmouth College in the U.S. state of New Hampshire.

He worked as a commercial banker for Scotiabank and a management consultant for Boston Consulting Group in Toronto and New York City. Baker also taught MBA students at York University’s Schulich School of Business.

He successfully fended off challenges from Conservative candidate Geoffrey Turner, a tax lawyer, and NDP candidate Ashley Da Silva, a constituency assistant for NDP MPP Marit Stiles.

The Green party did not name a candidate in this riding.

As a member of Parliament, Baker advocated for the federal government to fund 40 per cent, or $1.9 billion, of the Eglinton Crosstown LRT’s tunnelling construction cost.
