DON VALLEY WEST

- Ben Cohen

Rob Oliphant has won the riding of Don Valley West for the Liberals.

Oliphant was previously elected to represent the riding for the Liberals in the House of Commons three times, in 2008, 2015 and 2019. He lost once, in 2011, to Conservative John Carmichael, who won that race by about 600 votes.

While Carmichael was MP for the riding, Oliphant served as president and CEO of the Asthma Society of Canada.

Oliphant successfully fended off challenges from Conservative Yvonne Robertson, a distribution company owner, NDP candidate Syeda Riaz, an event co-ordinator for Toronto’s Pakistani Community Centre, and Green party candidate Elvira Caputolan, who works in the construction industry.

Oliphant served as co-chair of the House of Commons committee on medical assistance in dying, where he said he pushed the government to have a “more liberal approach” on medically assisted death.
