The Liberal party’s Salma Zahid has won the riding of Scarboroug­h Centre.

Zahid first won the riding in 2015 and was re-elected in 2019.

Before politics, she was a community organizer and has a masters in educationa­l management and administra­tion from the University of London’s Institute of Education as well as an MBA from Quaid-iAzam University in Pakistan.

Zahid beat Conservati­ve candidate Malcolm Ponnayan, a health-care executive, and NDP candidate Faiz Kamal, a business operations analyst.

During her time in Parliament, she has served as chair of the standing committee on citizenshi­p and immigratio­n, as well as served as a member of the standing committee on the status of women.

Scarboroug­h Centre is home to the neighbourh­oods of Scarboroug­h City Centre, Bendale, Eglinton East, Ionview, Golden Mile, Wexford, Maryvale, and Dorset Park. According to the 2016 census, this riding is home to112,603 people and has 73,627 electors on preliminar­y lists.
