VAUGHANWOODBRIDGE

- Kieran Leavitt

The Liberals have held onto the riding of Vaughan–Woodbridge after incumbent Francesco Sorbara took home a win.

The riding went Liberal in 2015 and has been held by Sorbara ever since.

Before entering politics, Sorbara was an economist and worked in global financial markets.

He defeated Conservative candidate Angela Panacci, a former corporate banking professional, as well as NDP candidate Peter DeVita, an engineer.

During his time in Parliament, Sorbara has served as parliamentary secretary to the minister of national revenue and sat on the House of Commons standing committee of public accounts.

Like elsewhere in the Greater Toronto Area, affordable housing was a thorny issue. Amid the rising costs of living, Vaughan residents have always pushed for lower taxes when possible. Recently, LowestRates.ca reported that Vaughan residents pay the lowest municipal property tax in the province, an indication of such ethos.
