MISSISSAUGA— ERIN MILLS

- Alex McKeen

Incumbent Iqra Khalid has won the riding of Mississauga— Erin Mills for the Liberals.

She has represented the riding since 2015, when it was created from parts of former Mississauga ridings. The area has typically swung between support for the Liberals and Conservatives.

At 35, Khalid has become a prominent young member of the Liberal caucus, chairing the standing committee of justice and human rights and the allparty women’s caucus.

She defeated James Nguyen, an investment adviser who ran for the Conservatives.

Prior to being elected, Khalid earned a law degree from Western Michigan University Cooley Law School and articled for the city of Mississauga.

Her family immigrated to Canada in 1998 from Pakistan, via England.

The NDP candidate for the riding was Kaukab Usman.

The Mississauga—Erin Mills riding is one of six federal ridings in the city, covering the southwestern area of the city along Britannia Road West, with an area of around 35 square kilometres.
