City rec programs return to pre-COVID offerings
The city of Toronto is returning to a full slate of autumn and winter break recreation programs after reduced offerings since the start of the pandemic.
The number of participants, however, will continue to be lower than in past years to accommodate COVID-19 precautions, the city announced Tuesday.
Registration for programs starts at 7 a.m. Saturday for residents of Etobicoke, York and Scarborough.
For people who live in the old city of Toronto, North York and East York, registration for the recreation programs starts at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
Details on how to register can be found online at www.toronto.ca/explore-enjoy/recreation/ or by contacting the service call centre at 416-396-7378.
The activities starting Oct. 16 include weekly group classes and workshops for all ages including arts, fitness and wellness, general interest, skating, sports, swimming and virtual programming.
Registration is also available for December holiday programs.
Provincial proof of vaccination and valid identification will be required for many participants and spectators including: those aged 12 and over using indoor areas of fitness centres, weight rooms, and fitness classes; people ages 18 and older in organized sports, dance, martial arts and swimming; and spectators aged 12 and over, and their caregivers aged 18 and over, visiting indoor areas used for sports and recreation fitness activities.
Exceptions to the vaccine mandate include: all children under age 12; patrons under 12 “actively participating” in organized sport; people with written medical exemptions from a doctor or registered nurse; and patrons visiting solely to use a washroom, make a payment or register for a program.
Other public health measures such as health screening, contract tracing, masking, physical distancing, and capacity restrictions continue.
