Government, optometrists need to focus on our health
Thousands denied eye care amid optometrist dispute , Sept. 23
I always believed individuals gifted or possessing talents to pursue medical specialty careers were compassionate and prepared to sacrifice for the welfare of mankind.
This article has shattered that belief.
It is apparent the only point of contention between the two parties is money. The almost cavalier attitude both sides have adopted is troubling. Especially when Sheldon Salaba, president of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, categorizes ongoing mediation and bargaining as “they’re playing games right now.”
This is reality, and it is adversely affecting tens of thousands standing in queue waiting for this matter to be resolved. The time has arrived to eliminate any type of bargaining process that sanctions and permits the public to be held captive to contract negotiations.
