‘Run the Burbs,’ a sitcom ‘throwback’

- Debra Yeo

Some familiar and not so familiar faces are joining “Kim’s Convenience” star Andrew Phung in his new CBC comedy “Run the Burbs.”

The comedy stars Phung as stay-at-home dad Andrew Pham, whose Vietnamese-South Asian-Canadian family includes his executive wife, Camille, and children, Khia and Leo.

Rakhee Morzaria, whose most recognizable credit is the web series “Note to Self,” will co-star as Camille, while Zoriah Wong (“Nancy Drew”) and Roman Pesino (“Odd Squad”) play the kids.

Comedian Ali Hassan will play father-in-law Hamesh; “Second Jen” star Samantha Wan will be bubble tea cafe owner Cathy; and “Baroness von Sketch Show” alum Aurora Brown plays “neighbourhood permit assassin” Barb.

Series co-creator Scott Townend calls the show “a throwback to classic family sitcoms in the burbs, but with a family that you’ve never seen reflected on television before.” Production is underway in Toronto and Hamilton for a winter debut.
