MARIA RAIMONDO (nee VESPA)

-

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished wife, mother and grandmother, on October 6, 2021, peacefully, in her 88th year. Beloved wife of Costanzo for 64 years. Devoted mother to Giuseppe and his wife Lucia, Costanzo and his wife Annie and Nicolina and her husband Rocco. Loving Nonna to Daniele (Vanessa), Laura, Joseph, Analisa, Joseph, Maria and David and Bisnonna to Rafaella. Fondly remembered by her brothers Carmen, Dominic and Antonio and sisters Olga and Lina. Maria was born in Montorio nei Frentani, Campobasso, Italy, where she met and married her devoted husband, Costanzo, before immigrating to Canada in the late Јfties. As their family grew, they established Raimondo Supermarket, a successful and prosperous family business where Maria was the anchor for over 35 years. She was a savvy businessperson who took a genuine interest in all of her customers and many became lifelong friends. She was engaging and incredibly talented, preparing countless gift baskets and ornamentals for the holidays.

Maria loved dancing with Costanzo on Saturday nights. She enjoyed socializing and celebrations with friends and family at the Montorio Club. She had an eye for fashion and was a gifted seamstress. Maria played cards and bingo enthusiastically and found amusement in Italian soap operas, variety shows and gossip magazines. She loved her daily walks with her friends. Maria and Costanzo enjoyed travelling and spent their summers at the family cottage at Wasaga Beach, spending cherished time with family and friends. Nothing brought Maria more joy than when her family gathered together.

Maria was a genuine, caring and gentle soul. She was respected, loved and adored for her kindness and generosity. She greeted everyone with a smile and a sparkle in her eye. Our lives have dimmed with her passing.

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to Maria's caregivers, especially Vanessa, Maria, Yeelena and Marissa for their exceptional care over the past few years.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 13th, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m. at Bernardo Funeral Home (2960 DuЇerin St., south of Lawrence). Funeral Mass will be held at All Saints Roman Catholic Church (1415 Royal York Rd.) at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 14th, followed by Interment at Glendale Cemetery (1810 Albion Rd., west of Hwy. 27).
