We’re sticking with the Blue Bombers

- Pick:

They’ve been the class of the CFL this season and so it’s fitting that Zach Collaros and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers have the chance to become the first team to cement a playoff berth Friday night (9 p.m., all games on TSN) with a road win over the Edmonton Elks. The Bombers (8-1) are looking to reach the 10-win plateau for the fifth consecutive year.

Winnipeg is coming off a 30-3 home victory last week over Edmonton (2-6). Winnipeg accumulated 401 total offensive yards and held the ball for more than 36 minutes despite being minus Kenny Lawler, the CFL’s receiving leader. Lawler is back from suspension this week.

Rookie Taylor Cornelius will start at quarterback for Edmonton. Veteran Trevor Harris faced Winnipeg last week but was replaced by Cornelius after completing just 9 of 22 passes for 87 yards. Cornelius didn’t fare much better against Winnipeg, finishing 6-of-13 passing for 47 yards and an interception. He has thrown four interceptions in two games against Winnipeg this season.

Pick: Winnipeg.

> Montreal at Ottawa, Saturday, 4 p.m.: Matthew Shiltz starts at quarterback for Montreal (4-4) after Vernon Adams Jr. (shoulder) was hurt in last week’s 20-16 win over the Redblacks (2-6). Shiltz led the Als on their 65-yard, game-winning march. Ottawa rookie Caleb Evans has four interceptions and no touchdown passes in his last two starts. Pick: Ottawa.

> Calgary at B.C., Saturday, 7 p.m.: The Stampeders (4-5) are coming off consecutive wins over Saskatchewan and have won four straight at B.C. Place. The Lions (4-4) won the series opener Aug. 12 but have lost their other four games against West rivals. Calgary.
