Why do we celebrate the ultra rich going into space?

Re Shatner launches into the final frontier, Oct. 14 Here on Earth, millions of people are starving every day and governments around the world are going deeply into debt because of the pandemic. At the same time, people like Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson and Elon Musk are spending billions of dollars to make space tourism, which caters to the whims of the ultra rich, possible.

The rich have increased their wealth by trillions of dollars during the pandemic. So they can have a 10-minute joy ride in space?

I am surprised the media would celebrate such crass and despicable accomplishments.
