Why would owners of Hwy. 407 be willing to sell?

-

Re Letter, Removing tolls on Hwy. 407 would solve a number of problems, Oct. 11

In response to Mark Jessop’s letter, I would say there are a few issue at play here.

The owners of the 407 would have to be willing to sell. (I’m sure they are not.)

The 407 is valued at $30 billion, and it provides the owners approximately $500 million a year.

The majority owner is the Canada Pension Plan Investments Board (50.01 per cent), which means $250 million of this is helping fund pensions. Finally, who would spend that kind of money then terminate the revenue stream? Bruce Katkin, Brampton
