Ontario deserves leaders who care for the elderly

-

Re Ontario will double its staff of nursing-home inspectors, Oct. 26

So, let me get this straight: the Ford government tossed out comprehensive, active inspections a couple of years ago, but now it is reinstating active inspections and doubling the number of inspectors, even though it can’t revoke licences of even the worst long-termcare facilities because it would have nowhere to put the residents?

Because it has never invested in staffing alternative housing arrangements like naturally occurring seniors’ communities, or asked municipalities to acquire houses in people’s own neighbourhoods and staff them as has been done for literally every other age group needing care?

Don’t the people of Ontario deserve a government that funds in-home care so people never have to go into these horrible places in the first place? What is taking so long?
