You get ‘graded’ on your ability to handle money. From the time you get your first credit card, your ability to pay money back steadily and on time gets tracked and graded by one of Canada’s two credit rating agencies (Equifax and TransUnion). If you pay late, or miss credit card or loan payments, your grade (referred to as your credit score) may plummet. A low credit score can make it tough for you to get a mortgage or other loan in the future, especially at a favourable interest rate.
