Giorgetto Giugiaro isn’t the only car designer to work outside the automotive world. Here are three other examples:

Marcello Gandini Another legendary Italian designer famous for penning the Lamborghin­i Miura, Countach and Diablo – also designed the Heli-Sport CH-7, an ultra-light single seat helicopter. A version of it still remains in production today.

Walter Da Silva Designer of the Audi R8, Audi A5 and the seventhgen­eration VW Golf, he also dabbled in luxury cameras. His Leica M9 Titanium Camera is trimmed with napa leather, the kind that you’d find in high-end Audis.

Adrian Van Hooydonk ADutch designer and director of BMW Group design is most famous for his work on the 2001 BMW 7Series. He also redesigned the Emeco aluminum stacking chair, which firsst debuted in 1951. Hooydonk’s chair retains the feel of the original but is more modern and is made using recycled plastics.
