Time for Ford to put brakes on his own gravy train

-

Ford loves to build things, but who’s going to pay to run them?, May 3

When the Ford brothers, Rob and Doug, were in municipal politics, their rally cry was: “Stop the gravy train!” It was aimed at government spending.

Dial it forward, and Doug Ford, using his emergency powers and a ministerial permit, rammed through a proposal at the end of the Yonge St. line in Richmond Hill: 40,000 new units in towers ranging from 60 to 80 stories each.

This density will rival the slums of Mumbai, India. And not one unit of affordable housing. There will be less green space than is mandated and no new schools approved.

Who benefits? Not the middle class, not the community, but the developers who donate the most to the PCs.

Doug Ford wants to build Highway 413. Gas prices for the “cheap” gas will be going north of $2 per litre. The highway and the Bradford bypass will go through green space, farms and waterways.

Who benefits? Not the wildlife. Not the person who takes transit. Not the person who wants food that is grown locally.

Only those who can afford a car and the developers who bought up land where the proposed highway is due to pass.

So, Doug Ford … please stop the gravy train!
