SHIRLEY LORRAINE FARMER

March 29, 1928 - May 16, 2022

-

Shirley (née Lawrence) lived a beautiful life full of unconditional love. She died peacefully, in her sleep at home. Always warm, sunny, and joyful, she taught us how to "Enjoy Every Day". A genuine person, a loyal friend, a fortunate wife and mother - she made her life a wonderful dream come true.

Shirl is Јnally reunited with John, her beloved husband of 68 years. They were an inseparable pair; a true model of respect, trust, and partnership at home, on the slopes, at the beach, and on the tennis court. They were blessed to share a happy, healthy life together.

Mom's gentle spirit is missed, but always present in the hearts of her devoted family. She is cherished by her children, Marilyn, Rod (Linda Tickins), Jody Smith (late Rob Smith, Peter Herbert), and Jill (Angelo Valente), her grandchildren Devon Smith (Matt Low), Lindsay Glover (JeЇ), Jamie Smith, Connie Farmer (Antonie Furlani), Molly Farmer (Alex Kolanko), Lili DesBaillets, and Chris and James Valente, and her great-grandchildren Lauren and Kate Glover, and Thomas and Georgia Low. Nana had a knack for letting each of us know how uniquely special we are. Thoughtful and kind, she generously gave us hand-painted cards or shirts, custom-knit sweaters, and hand-sewn clothes (with matching outЈts for dolls or pets). She could turn a simple visit into a cocktail party, bake a cake for our arrival, and amuse us with her "accurate" stories.

Shirley inspired everyone with her style and creativity. She was an accomplished artist who studied with several distinguished Canadian painters. She was a member of the Humber Valley Art Club for over 30 years, and also served as its President. Her works are recognized in important galleries and private collections around the world, and proudly grace many local homes. Area studio tours and juried shows also added to the recognition of her outstanding talent. Her mural of windsurЈng in Collingwood was commissioned for the exterior of the town's arena. Vaughan Road Collegiate, Humber College, Allenwood Beach, Lakeshore Arena, Memorial Pool, the Ontario Human Rights Commission and Ministry of Labour, the Sweet Adelines, Etobicoke Musical Productions, numerous tennis clubs, the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts, Probus Club, more than 50 years at Craigleith Ski Club - her curiosity and sociability have always sparkled.

Every view of Georgian Bay and the Niagara Escarpment evokes Shirley's celebrated paintings. We are always surrounded by her presence. She has shown us the beauty of love and life. We are all grateful.

Arrangements entrusted to Fawcett Funeral Home ̫ Collingwood.
