Proportional voting is needed in Ontario
Our first-past-the-post system, where less than 40 per cent constitutes a majority, is a slap in the face to the democratic process. But why would any political party change a procedure that put them in power?
With this upcoming election, reputable surveys have already declared another Tory “majority” since they are leading in the polls. But a measly 36 per cent, or thereabouts, taking all the marbles for another four years in running our province? Why wasn’t such a number considered a passing grade, generations ago, when I struggled in school?
Ontario is sadly in need of a proportional voting system, where every vote counts. I will vote, but only because I bear scars from Mike Harris.
And Ford, in his steamroller, is hardly any better.
